Fuel delivery issue
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:47:49 PM »
I have an issue with the fuel injection system in my M42.

A few times over the past two years, the car hasn't started up and will just crank and crank.

Too much fuel is being dumped into the cylinders on either start up or shut down, which washes away the oil on the walls and causes low compression.  (putting a cap full of oil in each cylinder and letting it sit for 10min will make the car fire right up and run smoothly).

The fuel pressure regulator has maybe 10k on it as I replaced it late last Summer.

I'm thinking it's leaky injectors, but the problem seems to be VERY intermittent.

I had a Sentra a few years ago that would do this. It was caused by the ICV sticking.

How would that cause it?

Oh, and the car is about to roll over to 300k and I'm pretty sure the injectors are original.

crazy idea, might not work... but it's better than nothing??

empty the fuel rail and plug an air compressor into the intake line? push only like 35 PSI not to move the FPR. my guess is that if the injectors are leaking, you's hear a hissing sound from the leaking one...
