Blasphemy - I bought a E36-M3.
« on: May 18, 2009, 08:36:22 PM »
I have committed blasphemy and bought an E36-M3.

I love my E30-318is and just spent the weekend replacing all the hoses.  The car is a blast to drive with the foot to the floor but not getting in too much trouble.  It is has been my daily commuter and getting over 30 mpg.  The baby has 268K and has never let me down.

I saw the ad, got bitten, I went for a quick view to put it out of my mind and fell in love again.  Just like when I met my 318is.

What is a guy suppose to do?  Can you have too many BMWs?  I hate to part with the 318is as it is immaculate (well at least to me).  People still turn their head to see the Brillantrot drive by.

As you can see I’m still in shock and will miss all the friends I’ve met in the M42 forum (even if it was just reading your advice).  I can only hope the M3 forums will be as friendly and contain as much useful information.

Cheers and have an enjoyable Canada Queen Victoria Holiday.

...though I wouldn't categorize it as blasphemy.  I am in the process of a full restoration of my 318is (DiamondSchwartz Metallic) and will attempt to adapt the DASC supercharger kit sometime this summer.  164K mi.  Don't think I will part with it.

I spotted a perfect 95 M3 on Roundel's online classified ads and will be replacing my daily driver Porsche 968.  The 968 has been good, but have been searching for an E36 M3 for awhile.  This was my 3rd front-engined, water-cooled Porsche (944S2, 944 Turbo S) and will be my 2nd M3 (had an E30 M3.)

A man can never have too many BMWs.

1990 E30 318iS
1996 E36 328i Coupe (328iS in USA)

Feel the love for E30s and E36s!

Aren't they the same car?  A multilink rear axle, better HVAC & stereo, slightly more rear leg room, and unfortunately 300 more pounds or so.  Otherwise they're almost the same car...The e21 isn't all that different either.  Smart not to mess with perfection, isn't it?  I considered both an e36 323i coupe and a 325i sedan before I settled on my e30 318i.  I really liked them all.  I might replace this e30 with an M3 if and when it wears out.

I also have a 325is and a 525i (both with M20s).  The 325is runs but it's rusted out, so I've been swapping the goodies over to the 318i.  The 525i is comfortable and just keeps running.  I hate to get rid of a car that runs that well.  And I can't forget the Mazda MPV either...I need a parts hauler, don't I?:D

Last summer I owned a E46 320it, E30 318is and a E36 M3.. Sure miss the power of the M3, but at the end the IS is a lot more fun to drive on the tracks! :)

My wife wants the X3 for our snowboarding excursions, so it's a BMW for our enjoyment and I can't argue with that, so it's all love.

Amen to everything said here. Enjoy that e36 M3. I went from an '88 325iS to an '84 325e, then to a '95 M3. The e30 bug will get you though. I now DD a '91 318iS and have the '84 325e in the garage going through a 2.7i stroker w/boost.

If you can, keep the 318. You wont regret it ;)

Changed my mind

I just put my PERFECT '95 M3 up for sale.  Decided to keep the 968.  Was not an easy decision, I wavered a great deal.  Ultimately, I concluded I don't need a perfect car.  The 968 still needs some of my attention, the M3 doesn't.  Go to CraigsList Milwaukee if you want to see the M3 for sale ad.
