Low Budget Turbo Project
« on: May 14, 2009, 03:49:59 AM »
Hello i am so excited cause i found this  m42land :) This is my first posting here, and i will try to explain with a couple of words, what i plan to do.

So i have a '95 M42 E36 which is running pretty good for iS (don't know why but it's faster than m50b20 and even than m52b20).
Ok what is the project. I will connect a garett T25 directly to the muffler without any cooler, don't plan to put megasquirt or any other electr., no additional nozzles or gas pump. I expect 0.4b boosting. I don't think to open the engine, cause it should resist on 0.4b. My main problem is the muffler, i don't have any schemes to create it.
What do u think about this? I don't expect an incredible result, i just want to start with this project and if everything is ok, i will continue with cooler, megasquirt, gas pump, probably with crankshaft from TDs, etc...

Best Regards
Ivan

how much boost do you plan on runnin?! if you plan on keepin the car long id recommend just waiting, saving your money, and putting it all together at once. dont run the turbo without an intercooler. #1 reason turbos/motors fail in these cars.

i am thinking about 6-7 psi, what do u mean with that 'turbos/motors fail in these cars', m42 is not strong enough for boosting?

You have a lot of research to do. It's not a matter of the engine being strong enough, but rather you have no way to adjust for more fuel with so much more air going into the engine. Obviously I know that you aren't from the US, and that they probably don't speak english in Wonderland, but you still need to search around before you post threads like this.

That would gain you no power, and would lag badly aswell. Reason is that the air blown into engine is too hot (oxygen poor), and if theres no engine management to control fuel ratio it just wont do anything good. Ive seen 318iS with a turbo that had everything except it was running on OEM engine management, and it was crap. I cant believe how bad could this version be. ˇˇ :D

Maybe u r right guys, i posted this topic cause i had the chance to test an m50b20 olnly with an IHI, and muffler, without even a cooler, without MSquirt, without wideband, etc. That e36 was running really nice, that's why i decided to post a thread like this. i know that m42 is lets say 'more turbo-resistant' than m50, that's why i thought that i can do the same setup on my beauty.
Anyway i already decided to boost my bimmer and i will do it but with a higher budget :P

P.S in wonderland we speak wonderlandish :P just jokin, i am from Bulgaria - Eastern Europe ;)
