My pistons have arived
« on: July 14, 2006, 10:34:08 AM »
I finaly got my S52 pistons yesterday. I need to calculate the compression of the new set up. I dont have an engine apart right now to get the combustion chamber volume or the crushed head gasket thickness. I was wondering if some of you fellow enthusiest can help with this.

I need average combusiton chamber volume of a stock head that has not been planed or machined flat since that will alter the volume.

I also need an accurate thickness of a used crushed head gasket.

I also need an accurate dimension of a stock piston pin diameter and the thickness from the top of the piston to the top of the wrist pin hole so I can determine the piston pin height.

I will share all of this info and the dimensions of the S52 pistons so that we can have this info for all to use if another person wants to build another S52/M42 hybrid engine.

S52 piston dimensions

wrist/gudgion pin diameter      22mm x 56mm wall thickness of 4.6mm I think
these can lightened they weigh 108.5 grams

Piston diameter                     85.75mm  but they are stamped 86.365mm
I assume this is the cyl. bore for these pistons

pin height                            19.8mm

top ring thickness                  1.15mm
second ring                           1.5mm
oil ring                                 1.5mm   thin rings low friction

piston weight with pin and rings   433.5grams

ring package thickness            11mm

top ring land thickness            8mm

I need to find the volume of these pistons, I will post it when I get it. I found the volume of 15cc in the piston dish.

I hope this is helpful
I think this is a good alternative for those looking for more power for cheap. These pistons were purchase in the US and for cheap. Since these pistons are normaly used in sets of 6, a broken engine can yeild a good set of 4 just what we need.

If i could get the same dimensions from a stock M42 piston I would apreciate it.

Thank you

hey are you the one selling the exhaust?

anyways i was wondering if you knew how much all the new bearing and stuff were going to cost?
