Working on some N/A mods..
« on: April 27, 2009, 07:14:10 PM »
well after months of searching forums/ threads/ talking to others about builds and what not here is what i started with.. and what i'm going with...

i drive a 91 318i

i just picked up an e36 m42 motor

now at first i was thinking centrifugal supercharger.. but after looking into all the little things needed i just didn't want to deal with it..

then i started thinking a stroker m42.  after about a solid week of looking into what i wanted to use, the pros and cons of a stroked motor... again i felt it was a bit much for what i wanted...

so this is what i'm going with...

rebuild the e36 m42 motor.  use m44 rods (50 grams lighter) and MM pistons (stock compression, or 10.5:1 or 11:1)  MM sport intake cam,  and convert the intake maifold back to the e3o and use the MM pulse intake manifold. bigger injectors, fuel pump, fuel regulator.

havent decided on piggyback or chip tuning.

i'm guessing tops 160 crank hp if i'm lucky.  (but won't know till the dyno runs)

this rebuild will start in august after i get my house fixed up and hope to have in installed by spring 10'

any thoughts or suggestions

thanks for reading

i just looked it up. yes it does have it.  its a pretty sweet system

Duel Resonance Intake System.
It is a butterfly system that switched from longer to shorter intake path's in 4 bangers.
Longer = better low end torque
Shorter = more high end H.P.
(off bimmerfourms)

i'll look into the pros and cons of keeping the system with these mild power adders.  i read that there may be a lag or flat spot from the open to close or visa  versa during acceleration.

fyi... this is a simular system that F1 motors have to increase tq and hp.  but its on a hydraulic system that moves the tb's close and far from the cylinder head.

update...

well it looks like i scored a m44 complete with wire harnes and dme.  so looks like i'm going to build that motor instead.

still on the fence with the intake manifold.  i'll try both and see if there are any differences after the build.
