Re-Covering Rear Deck (Interior) - Suggestions?

To start, let me answer the obvious question here. No, a new/used one won't be what I need. This is a sort of "custom" deal I am planning.

So, I do not use the rear speakers in the car as I find them mostly useless. Fading the sound 100% to the front sounds a lot better (to me)...you don't listen to music with speakers behind you at home (well, not with a decent hi-fi setup), and if you do, they certainly are not as loud as the front's. The car is the same deal. Of course, that is totally subjective, and I am getting distracted.

So, I want to fill in the 2 speaker holes and sound-deaden them. The rest of the deck has had sound deadening installed on it, but I want to plug up the speaker holes (and probably the vent things) to keep as much trunk noise out as possible. The speakers are mostly transparent to it, so I do not want to leave them in.

So, has anyone ever re-covered their rear deck before? Can someone recommend a carpeting material that has enough elasticity to fit the contours of the thing? I suppose I could just stick some stock speaker covers on there & use something black to fill the holes, but the circular covers on there now are a little bigger, and there would be some discolored carpet sticking out around the OEM covers.

Maybe cut up a used rear deck to fit the holes? Its a cheap option anyways.  

I'm not sure you want to plug up those vents though, they are part of the interior air circulation.  I don't remember where I read the info on these but they are associated with the vents under the rear bumper.  It might cause your windows to fog up easier or something, I don't know.

Hmm, good point on the vents.  Yeah, maybe I will leave them open.

I am looking into a new upholstery set for my seats right now, so perhaps I will ask the guy making them for suggestions.
