Totally different... I am buying a product, not "stealing a TV".  I am not the guy selling them.  Yes I am supporting him by buying from him, but that's the way it goes.  

I feel for you putting in all the work and having it copied.  I have no idea how much $ goes into R&D on these chips, so your price could be entirely justified.  But I'm a cheap bastard and if I can find a deal... not ashamed of it.  Not going to be guilted into spending $200 more.

BTW I have had products copied before and sold on ebay for much less and was actually forced out of selling those products due to costs.  As I said above, that's how it goes.

I've been looking for a performance chip for my 95 318iS for a while now. Got one off eBay, and it didn't work...not happy.

What type of chips do you offer Mark D? And where do you post?

I offer almost any chip required for a BMW, as that's what I specialise in.  (see my site for specific chips).   It's easier to tell you what I don't have for stock OBD-1 cars:  a chip for the E34 530 manual and the super eta motor, but both are currently in beta testing and will be available soon.   I actually developed the 530i chip 6 years ago but didn't release it.   Now found someone with that model close by so will soon make a new version.   Someone else in Torono is driving the super eta chip for the last 2 months.

I usually post here, but was not able to recently.    I haven't been on this board since April 8, and before that not since December.    But you can reach me by sending an email.  My email address is easy to find.

if its not asking much Mark D pls oblige on how i will be able to get one of your "chip" (cost, shipping and all that jazz) and whats your edge from a JConforti chip?
gearheads over on this side of the world are leaning more on JCs than Mark Ds

I've sold some chips to people in your country, but have to read more of the stock chips there as they use different maps.   I may start reading some common chips there and selling them later this year.

It's people like you who make it hard for the actual developers of good products to justify the effort it takes to make those products.   If I don't see a decent return on my investment, I won't consider making or releasing a product in the future.   I know there are people cloning my chips and selling on bimmerforums etc.  That's why my MAF conversion for OBD-1 cars is not being sold.  I'll just keep it here in the closet instead of letting others make money off my work.

You are not buying a product.   You are buying stolen IP.   In most countries, if you buy fake Rolex's etc, they can be confiscated and destroyed.

Using your logic, there's nothing wrong with buying a stolen car or TV, either.

You've been selling chips now for QUITE some time.  Obviously it is worth it for you to be doing so, so you are making money.  On the last group buy alone there were 10 buyers... $2000 in your pocket minus the chip cost and postage.

As I said, I feel for you, as I have had products copied/cloned & sold for cheaper as well.  Now I don't make those products anymore.  If there was anything we could do about we would.

Mark stated recently that orders have dropped off enough that it's not a fulltime job anymore--not saying it's solely due to copies of his intellectual property but I'm sure the copies aren't helping him.

I feel for him... but that's the way the market is.  I had to go back to work after my products were copied... sucks having to work for someone else again.

It was never enough to be a full time job.   I was suplementing my income with contract firmware development, which I am focusing more on now.   I'd rather be developing new chips, products  and OBD-II files, but not so someone else makes money selling them.

hey Mark,

i've checked your site, and the list of ECU doesn't show mine. I've just a couple of days ago realised that my ECU has EWS on it...and that would be the main reason why the chip i bought off eBay didn't work. Do you make any performance chips for this ECU? the ECU# is 0 261 203 590
