What is your 0-60 time??
« on: March 14, 2009, 07:42:37 PM »
Sorry guys, but i had to ask.

What was the original, and maybe your own current 0-60 timed on a track, and maybe the miles your car has (compression ratios if you want too :D)

just curious, and thanks.

Even in good tune and with a 93 octane chip it's slow by modern standards, but I don't care.  Driving a slow car fast is always fun...

my 91 318 4door speed is pretty snappy for 211k miles on it. id guesimate between 9.5-10 seconds. . but ofcourse i do take it to the limit fromt first to second and second to third. im doing a bit over 60 when i slam third. probly would be a bit faster if i hit second a little easier.

Not with a 4.10 differential you're not. The speedometer read about 5mph too fast at all speeds.

thanks for that insight. 4.10 gears came stock in a 318i? i figured they would have had 3 something highway gears. but then again ive never had any of my rears apart.

The stock 4.10 in 318is and 318i 4 door will take you to about 54mph at 6500rpm in second gear. Its most of the reason 0-60 times with these cars are so pathetic despite the low weight. I guess BMW didn't want competition for the more expensive 325.

I (and a few others on the forum) have switched to 3.64 or 3.73 differentials which will get you to about 62mph in second. It makes the car a lot nicer to drive on the freeway (quieter) and for autoX (no more 2-3 shift). It also makes the car quicker to 60.
cheers
Justin

Hmmm...a 3.64 would indeed be nice.  I've always thought that first gear was stupid short.  Anyone have an LSD 3.64 or 3.73 handy and want to swap for a 4.10 LSD?

disclaimer: I have little understanding of gear ratios and their relation to rpms.

It makes sense to me that with 4.10 differential and a performance chip (like Conforti) raising your rev limit to 7k your would be able to reach speed higher than 54mph.
Theoretically, wouldn't giving yourself 500 more rev each gear and thus extending the mph each gear could reach?

Let me know if my logic makes any sense.
