Suspension Renewal MTEC or Bilstein
« on: March 10, 2009, 02:30:40 AM »
Hi all- desperately need help here, as I am utterly confused.

I'm renewing my shocks and springs and want to keep stock height and ride quality but would like to update the tech if poss as MTEC shocks are 20 years old now, though surely they can be bettered. I found them great to be fair.

My options are new MTEC shocks and springs.
Bilstein B4 (which is seen as a direct swap for MTEC.
Bilstein B6 Sport (see descrition below)
Bilstein B8 Sprint (See description below).

All with relevant Eibach springs.

Bilsteins website says:

BILSTEIN B6® Sport
The BILSTEIN B6 Sport is the perfect solution for all those seeking to optimize their suspension in conjunction with the standard spring wanting a perfect setting with “comfort & sport”.

BILSTEIN B8® Sprint
Shortened high-performance gas pressure shock absorber in mono-tube/inverted technology - specially designed for lowered sport vehicles. It’s a must when sports springs are used
demanding a rebound of 30-40 mm.

But I have been told that the B4 is the straight swap for MTEC, The B6 has the shortest travel and hardest ride whilst the B8 is the best but is for lowered cars.

Does anyone have actual experience swapping to any of these shocks - your comments are particularly invaluable as you will all have swapped from E30 MTEC 318iS at some point...
