Job opening for the right person in West Allis, WI
« on: February 07, 2009, 03:28:36 AM »
The name of the company is ReGENco. It is located at the old Allis Challmers plant in West Allis 60th and washington (zip 53214)

First off, this is not a "real" job. Its about the most unreal job i've ever heard of. The equipment you will use, the variety of work you will do, and actual cost of everything around you everyday is pretty unreal.
This is the power generation industry. We work on the equipment that delivers electricity to the world. Every lightbulb in every house, every machine in every factory, every heart monitor in every hospital, every cash register in every store depends on this equipment. All of the rotors we work on are worth MILLIONS of dollars. When these power plants have to shut down these generators they may be loosing up to a million dollars every day. They want their equipment worked on 24/7 in order to get it back up and running as soon as possible. The amount of money thrown around can be outright staggering.

So let me just get all of the deal-breaker stuff out of the way right away.

This is not just some job. This is an amazing career opportunity.
But it is not for most people. If you have a family, a wife who expects you to be around, or school, this is not for you. The overtime will trump everything else in your life.
Also, we are primarily looking for Nightshift. There are some day time opportunities, but you will have to bend over backwards and lick my balls if that is the only thing you will take.
We are typically very busy during the spring and fall. We are typically a bit slower in winter and usually very slow for at least a month or two during the summer.
When we are busy, we are fucking busy. 84 hr work weeks are the norm (thats 7 12's). I have never seen weekends absolutely manditory, however, if you dont want to work the hours, dont waste my time. Now, on the other hand, if you need a day off here or there, or if something comes up that you need off for, its usually no problem at all. But when its busy, we need you there.
When its dead in the summer we are usually offered "standby" and get paid 40% a week (16 hrs) to be off but available to work if necessary. I think i had close to a month of standby in 08. Nothing is quite as awesome as enjoying your summer while getting paid to not work. Personally, with all the money you make in the spring, its nice to have paid time off in the summer.

So if the hours dont scare you, everything else is on you. The pay is good. Entry level pay is $15/hr and maybe you can negotiate more. Over 40 is time and a half and sundays are double time, so during the busy season you can expect to gross a minimum of $1600/week. We have entry level people making well over $60k/yr. A few years of experience and $80k+ will be no problem at all.

The benefits are good, not outstanding. Health, dental, vision, direct deposit. There is a 401k with 3% match.
The company is growing. There are loads of opportunities here.

Here's some pics of the shop and some of the stuff we with work on/with:

This one just came in for an inspection. It was 170,000 lbs.

This one was a full rewind. 900 megawatt, 160,000 lbs. It is being lowered by crane into a winding room where the copper windings will be reinstalled.

This is the smallest rewind we have done. A little baby. Maybe 10,000 lbs.

Here is some kind of shaft component, probably a compressor hub, being heated with induction.

Old cameraphone pic... shitty quality
This is the balance pit, where the rotors are dynamically spin balanced and electrically tested at operating speeds and overspeed. There is a 5,000 hp motor to spin the rotors. We have to notify WE Energies before doing a balance because of the tremendous load it puts on the grid.

Here is a large rotor, maybe 80 ton, being moved by crane.

As you can see from the pictures this is a HEAVY INDUSTRIAL workplace.
We use cranes on a daily basis. If you are the right person, you will be flying 100 ton $XXX,000,000 equipment 30 ft through the air. This job is no fucking joke.

If you have any questions, please ask away.
But please just ask them in this thread. Dont PM me unless you are providing a whole bunch of useful information about why you think you are qualified for this job. If you really want to get my attention, send me a resume. I can garuntee that i can get you an inteview at the very least. With my recomendation, you will most likely get probationary employment(the same way everyone starts).

This is really a very excellent opportunity for the right person. We need someone who is mechanically inclined, learns fast, responsible and can handle the hours. All those other skills i mentioned may or may not ever be used. They just help.

thanks for your time.
