C.I.BMW - Hello All!

Thank goodness I found you!  I have been an occassional watcher of bf.c but got so tired of trying to wade through posts that weren't relavent to our E30s and never got much response in the E36 forums.  I'm really excited about a site dedicated to E30 M42s.

I am very new to BMWs and picked up my white 318is about 3 months ago.  183,000 miles on it and the body and interior are in great shape.  Unfortunately it had an overheating problem.  I dickered down the price to cover a new head gasket (oh how optimistic I was then) and took it home.  One of the primary reasons I bought the car was to have something fun to drive and a car that I could learn to wrench on.  Boy did I get my wish.

Now after pulling it all apart I found a cracked head.  After searching hi and low for a new head I finally purchased an entire motor out of a wrecked (rear ended) 1991 318is with 130k.  Engine ran great, good compression and leak down, timing just done at 90k, and bought it for the same price it would have cost just to do the head work on my old one.  Plus it has everything on it that I spent the last month pulling apart and wondering how I was going to get it back together.  I pulled my motor and tranny this week.  My plan is to do the clutch, put in a SSK, replace the tranny and motor mounts, mate the old tranny and new engine, put it back in the car and get back on the road.

As luck would have it, I now found a used head for free so I have all the components for an engine rebuild.  I may do this slowly over the next couple of years (again this is a learning experience) then have a virtually new motor to swap in down the road.

Anyway, thats my story and I'm sticking to it.  I'll be posting quite a bit as I get further into my project and I'll apologize in advance for any dumb questions.  Looking forward to getting to know everyone.
