vw wheels on a bmw?
« on: January 17, 2009, 12:04:44 AM »
a neighbor has some vw wheels with mounted snows that look a lot like BMW bottlecaps
6x14 4 bolt
they have vw stamped on them, but I was thinking , for snow tires that get used maybe a month out of the year, no big deal
anyone know if these will fit a 4 bolt bmw 1991

Many VWs carry the same bolt pattern and offset as our cars.
I'm pretty sure your neighbor's wheels will fit on your car.

I second what boomer says. The bolt patterns match up, a few guys on this forum already sport vw wheels. Also the guy I sold my 14'' baskets to put them on his v-dub. At the worst you may need spacers. dooooooo iiiiiiit. :)

Depending on the year of vw, they'll even be the correct offset.

However, VW wheels take a 'ball' type bolt instead of the BMW 'cone'.

my steel rims and snows from my 92 jetta needed a 5mm spacer on the front to clear the caliper on my 91 318is

The only real concern would be the if the hub ring hole is the same and the type of wheel bolt as mentioned by dsp83gti

Im sure they will fit. I put a set of basket weaves on a MK2 Jetta and they fit nice.

Wheels tend to be slightly smaller (6-ish percent) on VWs of comparable rim size.  For instance, with a 16" rim, VW recommends a 205/40/16R wheras with E30s that 16 would be a 205/45/16R.  Your speedo will read high.

Also most VWs are FWD, so the wheel offset is either 35 or 38mm at 16".  Most E30 fitments would recommend a 20 or even a 15 depending on width of the wheel.

Tire size is different, yes, but offset sepends on width, fenders, and taste, alot of vw people around me like to stretch their tires
