M44 Mass air flow meter on M42
« on: January 10, 2009, 04:38:45 PM »
Is there any way to make the M44 mass air flow sensor work in place of the M42's Air flow Meter?

if i wired it up would it work correctly.

i heard it reads air alot better than the one used on the M42, and this could probably result in a little safer/better readings for the DASC

any input welcome please

Not sure because the M44 uses a hot film air flow sensor and the M42 uses a vane type air mass sensor. If the connections are the same I can't see why not.

the signal voltage is of a different range... Need to have a piggyback ECU to transpose the MAF signal for the ECU to 'understand'...
Yes, there's a difference in power delivery... U can use any MAF as long as you can 'transpose' the voltage signal range..

oh yeah, there's another thing.. u need to wire up a ambient air temperature sensor to the MAF.. FYI, there's a built-in air temp sensor in the stock AFM. Alternative, u can use a resistor of the correct resistance value in place of the air temp sensor.. Downside, the ECU wouldn't be able to compensate if the change is ambient air temp is significant..

Ive read that althou the car is more responsive to throttle there is no gain in top horsepower

not much gain in top end hp with just the MAF mod.. the gain comes from tuning the piggy ECU installed to get the MAF to work..

you need the Apexi AFC "select"  they are built specifically for german motronic cars.  my friend used one on his 90' 325is turbo.  pretty neat little tool if you cant afford SEM.
