Clutch upgrade? What else
« on: January 02, 2009, 02:42:33 PM »
So, my clutch is engaging at the very end of the throw and I have decided to upgrade the clutch and possibly the flywheel. I am looking for what clutch assembly and flywheel that people have had good results with. Also what other items I should do while trans is out. Rear main seal, pilot bearing, shifter upgrade recommendations...am I on the right path here guys?
Thanks in advance
Jesse

Apparently on the E30 one can use an M20 flywheel and clutch off a 325i, but it takes a bit of fiddling around to make it all work correctly. Search for it, there's all kinds of info on here. The lighter flyweel is a really great upgrade. More whp, and much quicker engine response. :)

Were it an E36 the answer would be anything made for an E36.

You should place a call to MM and talk with Teddy Rowe about the clutch package. They tend to make well engineered products.

Also you can go with a M42 single mass flywheel and clutch setup which is the EXACT weight of a unmodified M20 flywheel setup. I have done the research on the weights and published them here and on E30Tech. Although the M42 single mass flywheel is hard to find used and fairly expensive new.
