Temperature issue. Help?

Ok so I'm having a weird temperature issue with my car.

Here's what goes on...

When I'm driving the car the gauge goes to the first line before the half way mark. If I sit for long enough the gauge goes to the first line after the half way mark. Ok so that's that...

Now the weird part. When the gauge is at the first line before the halfway mark, the heater blows hot. When the gauge is at the first line after the halfway mark, the heater blows cold.....

What is going on? Has anybody ever experienced this?

Lack of water / coolant flow, low coolant level, water pump issue, leaking radiator or other system leak causing low pressure, leaking coolant.
I think someone said something about some hose being the wrong way or something, perhaps I am confused.
