E36 316g
« on: December 26, 2008, 01:17:00 PM »
Has anyone ever had any experience with a 316g?
For those confused, this was a E36 compact (ti) 316 that was a petrol / CNG (compressed natural gas) hybrid made from 1995-2000.
Yes, BMW had it long ago :)
I was curious about performing a retro to integrate the CNG fuel delivery system to a M42.
The 1.6L 316g motor is listed as a 8 valve as are normal 316's....
Anyone ever seen / worked with one?
These were not available in the USA, obviously.....

Wikipedia also lists an e34 518g with a 1.8 CNG/petrol variant of the m43

I once caught a rideshare from the Czech Rep to Amsterdam with a guy with a CNG/Petrol retrofit.  (I think it was carb'd.)  We about made it across all of  Germany hauling ass and pulling a small trailer on a single fillup leaving Czech.  (1 petrol tank+1CNG ) It ran flawlessly and was a dirt cheap way to travel. (avoiding German Petrol taxes. )

There are a few Germans on r3vlimited.com who export Elipsoids & BBS wheels to the US.   They might help you on your quest.

Post anything you find here.... I'm totally curious.

Cheers!
