custom capeting, what colour??
« on: June 19, 2006, 11:32:30 PM »
hey

Since i ripped out the carpeting in my iS a couple of months ago (it was in nasty shape) i've been wanting to replace it with just something custom tailored (by me :) ) from some thin lightweight carpet (like speaker box stuff)... so now i cant decide on a colour, what do u guys think. im leaning towards black but friends say it'll look dirty and get hot.

my car:

thanks

Nice looking car! The body coloured bumper inserts look good. I would like to see it with body coloured side mouldings too.

As for carpet colour, it looks like you have a grey colour carpet presently and I would stick with that colour as black looks too dark IMO.

You can get the factory "graphite" carpet sets from the dealer.  The loop design carpets are extremely durable.  I'm amazed at how well mine have held up considering the age and climate use of my car.

Do the dealer carpets come with the padding? I had mine out recently and it was heavy with the OEM padding.
The best place to check out carpet, etc., is a good trim shop. I got almost identical vinyl for the extendable part of the sport seat bottoms. The air holes are a few mm's farther apart. You can't see the difference.
I also agree with the wear properties of the loop carpet. It last's forever. I'll never use cut pile again. It wears especially bad under the pedals.
There's a good weight savings in the padding using more up to date materials. The reason light gray is so common in E30's is that it works so well well with other colors and doesn't show dirt and wear as much.
