Saturday I bought a 1992 318is cabrio off the second owner on Craigslist. The top/tyres/brakes are brand new as are the seat. The interior looks like it's never been sat in and the paint looks like it's never seen the likes of the sun. No rust and no dings and all most of it's paperwork (none from the first owner). It literally looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor (seriously. I'll post pics) I talked them down to 2k for it. My gut tells me this is a good deal…is gut correct?
Ok, so it's not without it's faults. The car has over 240k on the clock and the odo quit at 226k (have the paperwork from when the lady brought it to the shop when it stopped) And the front end shimmies between 50mph and 70. Also, the temp gauge bounces.
So, what can I do in the short term to ensure a long lasting e30? This is my 5th bimmer but I've never experienced one of these 4 bangers sans my '74 '02. How's the engine hold up in the long term? Anything I need be worried about? Thanks in advance for the advice!
cheers,
Mark
