You could have a shop reman your current head for much cheaper than $725. But how do you know that your current head is shot? This isn't an over-heating issue, I doubt the head sustained any real damage, besides the valves, retainers, and obviously the timing components. If you aren't up to the rebuild just find a low miles M42 out of another e30 or e36 and swap it in, there are tons of people swapping out perfectly fine M42s for 24v motors all the time. Find a decently low miles one, replace the timing components, check for problem areas such as the upper pan bolts, and throw that bish in there.
