Leak between head and block behind tensioner
« on: November 18, 2008, 12:43:09 AM »
Few months ago I had my engine replaced (head cracked from overheating) anyway I had 2 different donor cars for the head and the block. A couple of friends put the engine together for me,To make the long story short a straight edge was not use to check the blocks surface ,all the gaskets were replaced (brand new).
PROBLEM: Oil is leaking out beteween the head and the block! The closest way to describe the leak is facing the m42 engine from exhaust side, its the left corner side of where the tensioner is "that corner".Oil almost instantaniously leak out as soon as I add more oil.I almost want to spend another $1000 to have the head taken out again and have it checked!! But before I do that I want to throw it out there before i do anything drastic repairs....Has anybody else experience this....PLEASE HELP!!!

Was the head torqued down enough?  It isn't leaking out of the timing chain housing?  Possibly leaking from the cam cover?

I was even thinking of replacing all the cylinder head bolts...and the leak isnt coming from  the cam cover and the timimg cover ...but ill try that, re torquing the head after i get the special star adaptors /tools by the way what is the torque lbs for cylinder head and i forgot the pattern for tightening the head all i can rememnber is crisc  cross pattern. Thanks
