Adjustable Cam gear?? Really?

So I was looking at the tech section on r3vlimited... Stu McHenry, son of renowned BMW engine builder Pete McHenry, has a write up which mentions that the m42 has adjustable cam sprockets, yet I find no conversation about that fact on here.

I believe it's correct, they are adjustable. I think it may be a case of old news
Also, I am not sure who has done it, but the sacrifice of mid range for more top end is supposaidly not really worth it.

I did not think it would be ground breaking, but everyone wants some free modz

I would gladly sacrifice top end for more torque.  Mine is a daily driver and I try to keep it below 4500 since the engine is quite tired.

I am going to try advancing the intake 6 degrees and see what happens.

Also, you will SACRIFICE mid range in favor of top end, I THINK.
If your engine is tired like mine, I might study moving some of that power back in the the midrange?
I am not sure which should go which way for that.
Just a little input, interesting either way.
There is also a M42 cam tool that might help make that process easier.

From what I gather intake advance will help low and mid range and slightly hurt top end.  I would like to change it, but it will be after finals in mid December..

I must have it backwards then. The McHenry article suggests 5+ on the intake, and leaving the exhaust.

From what Ive read its best to just leave the cam adjustment alone. BMW put it where it is for a reason, even though many other things leave me scratching my head.

Are you the one that will tell me that Steve Dinan, Jim Conforti, Mark D'Sylvia, Xxxxxxx  Xxxxxxx, and Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx all use pretty much the same code-adjustments to their modified computer chips on ignition and fuel curve??   : )  : )   [Sorry for the Xxxxxx....but, some names need to be protected]
