So as I stated before in one of my post, I lost compression on one cylinder being number 2 and have tracked it to worn rings.

So now I have plans to just rebuild the m42 to stock specs just to have a healthy running motor.

I am trying to get some prices together on bottom end parts....Piston rings, Rod bearings, Main bearings, Seals and so on..

Now I have been searching and found a few good prices on most of the parts I need but I am lost on the main bearings... A few websites I have gone on have been talking about late style main bearings with 2.0mm tabs? and others saying "for the Base M42 1.8L Gas Engine".

Can you guys help me out on sourcing some of my parts? Help will be very appreciated.

All the help and information and "hook up" on parts will be great.

Dude, look in the upper right hand corner.

BMA.

Call them and ask to speak to Patrick, tell him Denis from NY told you to call because you're (pat) the man to talk to about BMW parts.

He will help you out with the main bearing issue you are having. I would also become intimate with realoem.com

If you're going to rebuild it, you might as well squeeze some power out of it. I know, I know, but you want to keep it stock. Thats what I said when I started rebuilding my M50. Try to source an M44 crank, M44 rods and pistons. If you're feeling a bit crazy get yourself S50 pistons. You're going to have to re-hone the block anyway, so you might as well bore it out 2mm

With that said, you shouldn't have any trouble getting answers here because there are plenty of guys on the forum that have built up their M42's!

Nice. I have actually got a few prices from RMeuropean.com but I will contact BMA as well to see if the price will be better so I can just order everything from one place.

As for the little more m42 power. I was thinking about doing a stock rebuild and maybe boost it with a thicker headgasket to lower the compression a bit.

I see a few guys on here running stock motors boosted 7-10psi with no issues. So I don't know yet on what exactly I want. I was going to go with an m50 but r3v=M50's as you should know lol.

Well you certainly have many options and getting everything from one place will keep all of your records nicely organized.

Boost is a very good idea...and in that case a fresh rebuild would do it along with the head gasket!

R3V is most certainly the 24V haven but without the info there, it would have been very difficult to build my car.

Yea. I am thinking about getting a ko3s or ko4 from a 1.8t vw/audi. Something small to play with since Im not looking to enormous boost nor power just something that can get out of its way. As for management I will go with megasquirt or see if I can get a chip burned somewhere.

As for the headgasket, Anyone know where about I can find a thicker HG? I was thinking double stacked stock HG but would rather just find one made for that choice.

Now if I was to go with a thicker headgasket...Since the head will sit slightly higher, Wouldn't that cause an issue with the timing cover profile gasket since it wont be seated flush with the block? Also by how much does the thicker hg lower the compression by?
