I think I have seen the turbo one before. The pseudo S42 is sweet though. GTTechnic is the shiznit.

That GT3 looks real interesting. I've never seen a BMW that was a full tube frame silhouette body that I recall. The class is usually populated by Nissans, Toyotas, and other RWD types. Probably because it can get pretty expensive to build a BMW engine compared to the ricers plus the fiberglass body availability. A BMW GT is undoubtably a labor of love.

is this your 318 or somone you know??? I am looking at putting a turbo in mine and I need to find a manifold to do it so if you know where I can get more info on this it would greatly be appricated thanks

same here my problem is trying to find somone that has made a maifold or header for this motor but as I keep looking it becoming more and more clear that I am going to have to have custom made and that also is going to be a challenge there aren't very many custom shops around here in wi that I know of

im the new guy here but i have info for turbo fans!mosssleman makes a turbo kit for the m42!it is very expsensive(about 4,000)too rich for my blood!so there is another option. when i turbocharched my car i built my own manifold!if you turn the exhaust manifold upside down and cut off the collector you will see that you have 75% of the hard to find manifold!and it WILL stand up to the heat(mine did)!i am also trying to get the pictures of this too!the entire build cost me under 2,000 dollars and the best time i ever ran was 13.1 at 126 mph! unfourtunately the car got crashed and i sold the entire drivetrain(i thoght i was going to sell the shell) now i fixed the shell back to normal with a few additions and i just picked up a 95 m42 with tranny,harness and computer with 18,000 miles on it.

There's more of those pics. i just have to find them. I spoke with the owner over a few PMs briefly about 2 years ago. I think he was making 2xx hp. He swapped out his m42 for an m20b25 though :mad: http://www.ticco.com/

I think a 2xxhp m42 stripped and caged up should be fun, challenging and safe to manage :cool:

I love it I want it all I need is that dam manifold if I can find someone that has made one and works I would be willing to pay for another one the rest is no prob just the manifold is hanging me up

what about the idea of flipping the exhaust manifold and cutting it off so you just have to make a couple pipe modifications. an exhaust shop should be able to do that for you. or a good place to visit is any diesel performance shop, they should be able to make you somthing.

I have considered the idea of flipping & chopping the stock manifold, but i doubt it can handle the heat. It would probably crack. What you really want is a custom one fabbed from Inconel (if you have $$$), or some heavier gage stainless, like 316L or the like.

Like it has been said above, crap in, crap out. Half-assing a turbo job on an already strung out motor like the M42 will probably leave your pistons full of holes and lots of coolant in your oil. I would LOVE to see a turbo E30 M42 in the US, or in the hands of one of our members. Let's all go win the lottery and do it!

Although I rapidly realized that I did not have the $ or time to do this right, the thread became a somewhat useful knowledge base.

I recommend something similar here. Perhaps if we all talk & build up a good base of knowledge and maybe soemthing like a well-organized list of parts I will sticky a DIY M42 Turbo thread in here or the DIY section. I guess if it is all theoretical it will be in here. Once someone does it I will put one in the DIY section.

Actually, I just decided to start a new thread in here for this. It should be within all of your capacities to find it in this MONSTER discussion board :p .
