Booked my flight! 1 Way ticket to this 318is..
« on: June 10, 2006, 08:38:17 PM »
So i finally convinced my parents to let me spend my hard earned money even though i dont really need a car right now.  I fly down to So Cal to test-drive and hopefully buy it, coming all the way from Oregon.  Whether i buy it or not i'll still drive back up here with my brother, hopefully with two e30s not one!

Its alpineweiss, 155k or so, asking around $2k.  Seems like an okay deal, some minor body work needs fixing in front of driver's side rear wheel, interior in great shap, but i think the computer is busted. Has sunroof i think and i HOPE it has the LSD.  Here are the pics from when i saw it a few months ago and had the idea to think about 318is's...

wish me luck!

EDIT: okay so this is probably in the wrong forum?  Sorry. Mods feel free to move...

yeah, i really hope the engine is as good as the interior looks.

ooh i just saw a 318is in my town with flat tires and slashed-up seats, as well as an e60 M5 in the same driveway. maybe for a couple hundred the guy won't mind me clearing his driveway for him...

I got it!  After quite a long day, i own an e30!!!!!!

after a first test drive, i was impressed with its quickness. you can really feel the lightness of the car.   when my brother and i stopped to watch the engine as i revved, he noticed head bolts, two of them, rattling around on the passenger side.  not good we thought.  we took it back to the owner, who met us at la jolla independant, and the mechanic there fitted some sliders or whatever for the stripped nuts.  we go out on another drive, this time my brother behind the wheel.  Oh crap its really slow now. wtf? we bring it back after smelling something amiss and seeing smoke coming from the cat.  wtf again.  we take it back again.  woops, forgot to pt back the distributor cap to one of the cylinders.  so thats what 3/4 feels like.  felt like an '02! Anyways now we're out on our third test and the car feels great again, and we decide its worth buying.  asking 2200, i offered 1700 and he agreed when i said 1800.  overall i feel great about the purchase, it is a project but it gets me an e30!
so here's the deal with the car:
150,000 miles, alpineweiss (looks resprayed) and new bilstein shocks.  what doesnt work is the AC, no stereo and the computer is out of its place, yet functional. the sunroof handle does not stay put but can operate the roof with a little effort, and there is some rust form a replaced rear quarterpanel here and there.  wish me luck, im going to go wash it and then post the pictures in my member profile..

yes, looking forward to some more very high revs! we didnt know too much about the car's reliability, so i tried to keep revs around 3k, so a little under 70.

oh, also, i pulled steadily on my brother's 325is (intake, suspension), but he had about 350lbs of luggage in his trunk.

EDIT: i meant valve cover bolts were loose, not head bolts.

Heh, head bolts would have been a problem...

Congrats on the buy. Hopefully everything goes well.

PNO fees (planned non-operation) or something.  the guy wont pay, he is a douche and hung up saying not to call him again...  he was very shady and my car was in his hands and the results are a terrible self done spray job and a replacement panel that is rusty b/c he coudlnt find time to do it right... whatever. im getting a handle from a parts car i use, a 325is that was rear-ended.  getting his black spoiler for my white car...hot.

Nice- kinda like my story.  I bought the car knowing i had about the same amount i paid for the car to put into suspension and stuff right away, about 1800 for car and as of now, maybe a little over 2k total in the car either repairing or modifying.

As for my car, I got used fog lights in, but still need to buy and wire them up to work.
I got a ssk, a z.3 1.9 lever, (leaves it with shorter throw but doesnt look stubby) after my linkage went out.
I also got a remus exhaust with straight pipes.  Very fun!
I'll post more pics later and make a thread.
I am broke!

91318isFoundation- Good luck and keep us posted!
