Is a header worth the money??
« on: October 15, 2008, 10:00:08 AM »
I was thinking about getting a header for my 1993 318i german spec bmw ... I can tell there is a leak somewere in the exshust... That maybe the ticking i hear or maybe the lifters or maybe both..lol... (but beside the point) Is there a real diff in putting in a header? and is there a O2 in the header that will be need to replace?? and what kind of exshust or muffler do you guys think is good and not like borla thats like 250-300$ for a muffler. Has anyone ever put flowmasters on there bmw?/ i want a deep sound not a sound like a honda civic.

thanks

What engine does your car have? 8 valva m40 or 16 valve m42? Both were offered in Europe on 318i. The m42 already has a headed from the factory. The m40 was never sold in America.
Sold but not forgotten

This is whats wrong with your car.

The 16 valve M42/M44 was standard on US and Canadian cars on both the 318is and 318i in the 1991 E30 and all 92-98 E36 cars. In Europe only the 2 door 318is had the 16 valve engine. I think they did this because it would have been hard to be competitive in the US market with a 110hp 8 valve engine. Also BMW would have had to federalize and crash tests both engines separately which is a very expensive process. I'm not sure any of the US members here know the details about the M40 engine. You might want to check out the local european bmw forums.
P.S. Are you US military stationed in Germany? If so, i think the laws allow you to import any car you buy over there. You could bring back something rare like a diesel BMW or another non US market car to sell over here for a profit. E39 or E46 diesel would be sweet. Or maybe an E36 or E30 wagon.
cheers
Justin

yes im in the army and I can buy any car i want but to import (witch is free for one car) it would have to be changed to US spec's ... Meaning the motor and everthing is ok but the windows and gauges would have to be changed and i think thats really the only changed needed to be done for import.....the windows couse they are not shatter proof and the speed-o is in Km.... All you guys would love it here there are BMW's everywhere... there are no shit 6 bmw's sitting outside in my parking lot of my appt... 6 out of like 10 car' out there are bmw's .... you cant drive 1/4 mile without seeing like 7 BMW's on the road...

I went to the BMW dealership here in shcweinfurt geramny and they has some badass cars.. and the inside of the dealership had a strem going through it with running water really nice....

I might have to go back to the dealership and take pics for you guys and take some other pics of BMW"s driveing around here... let me know if you guys want me to do that and ill try to go this weekend and post them...

oh yeah and alot of opel's and cars ive never seen befor or knew about that look cool and some that look weird
