so my engine finally blew up not impressed. im going to open it up to see what happened this weekend #2 lost compression thats all i know. so now im looking into building the bottom end rods pistons has anyone used vac motorsports kit for the m42?? or who else makes kits that you guys have used. i just wanna know feedback on different parts to help on a decision of what to buy i need the car for daily driver and would like to be able to run 20+ psi safely i wouldnt run it all the time but when the need for speed and giggles comes along it would be great but it has to be reliable ive gone through 2 MLS gaskets now and it just isnt working out so im going a different rought any info would be appreciated

We used 2 of the VAC gaskets.

We have been happy with the stock gasket.  We picked up the gasket from Pelican.

how much boost you runing and im not talking about using just the gasket to lower compression i wanna know what pistons and rods are being used cuz thats the way im thinking of goin cuz just the gasket hasnt worked

We're running stock rods and custom pistons.  We know that it took more than 30psi and blew the headgasket out from between the head and block.  No problems with the rods at all.  There are more details on the failure here...

that is good to know are you using forged pistons?? would you know how strong the stock pistons are or how much boost they can handle cuz im going to machine the stock pistons to lower compression and use .070" MLS gasket because i found out today when i took my engine apart that all that happened was a burned exhaust valve on #2 and now theres a chunk missing out of the valve easy fix i just wanna make sure the pistons will hold 20psi and still be reliable for daily driver

Hi i use eagle H beam  rods  , wossner pistons and cometic head gasket. Bearings from E36 318tds they are stronger than original m42 and has 360 degrees axial bearing. Than use motul 20W60 lioman and you will have perfekt internals.

you can use the car for everyday driving it gives  a lot of fun on the streets to make drag with the bikes or other turbo cars but must be careful
