Casting number for head (318i) ?
« on: October 05, 2008, 03:15:42 PM »
Hey everybody!!!
Just wondering if anyone happens to know the casting number off a 318i head, (91 e30 m42, of course!) without going and taking it off and looking., or knows where on the head it is, aprox. The head shop down the steet has a couple, but I'm hoping to find out if they have one that will fit before I take mine off. Debating going for the full on rebuild, or just freshen it up a bit. Money will probably make the final decicion though;) Thanks for any help and advice ( which is always welcome ). Wish me luck !

:psorry,
you may not able to see unless you take out the cylinder head. I just took out mine and bought the used cylincer head. Mine is 464. I don't know if some one will able to determine without taking out the cylinder head.:)

Thanks Sakukurata. It was a long shot, but if someone was going to know it was going to be someone from "The Club". I have faith in the mighty guru's that roam these pages!!!  Do you hapen to remember where the 464 # was on your head? It would atleast give me a place to start. Thanks again.

Hi there, like said above, it´s not possible to see it unless taking the head off. It is located on the driver´s side, at cyl#4, right under the fitting for the hose that connects the head to the heater core.
I can post a pic if you want. My casting is: 1721464
I hope this helps!

:D It never ceases to amaze me how much everyone here knows !:D
Again, I humbly thank you "hesgone2fast".:p Thats exactly what I was looking for, and definatly helps !  As for the pics, I love pics, but I have already got more than I need, and I would feel guilty asking for more:rolleyes: You have been a great help. I'll update the thread as I go along with the rebuild and let everyone know how its going. I'll figure out how to post pics too.  :D
P.S.   Feel free to throw out the love, or any advice, comments, or anything else you want.
P.P.S.   Please let me know if I should post this here, or somewhere else. I don't want to mess up my first thread.

:D IT'S OUT !!!  :D
Well it took all of two days, 87 pictures, and a whole lota faith, but she's out!  :D   Not too bad, all said and done, (would have gone faster with a helper) but I'm happy with it. :) All in all, she looks great.  Nothing obvious anyways. Shop will tell me tommorrow what I'm lookin at, but I'm fairly confident she's ok. Now i just have to remember how it all goes together.  ( :o Thats when I'll probably have more questions. :o )
I'll post some pics tommorrow, once I figure that out, just to show off my baby.  :p:rolleyes:
