Clutch replacement
« on: September 24, 2008, 09:11:49 AM »
Hello , i have a E30 92 318ic w/M42 and it needs a new clutch. I ordered a clutch kit from Pelican parts and i think i messed up.I want to replace the flywheel too and the would like to shed some weight. I have been looking at lightened flywheels and see there are 2 options. A JBRacing at 9lbs for $630 and i think i can use the clutch kit i just bought, and a Fidanza at 13lbs for under $500 on the bay. The Fidanza looks like the deal but i am confused. Do i need to use an E36 PP and disk to use the Fidanza? I should have bought the FW first then the clutch kit. Anyone have a fidanza and what disc/Pplate did you use.
Thanks
Glen

The fidanza WILL NOT fit an e30 tranny. It is a 240mm flywheel. It fits a e36 because of the different tranny. Save yourself some money and do the m20 flywheel mod. Lots of info on here about it. Do a search.

This brings up the question:

I also have a 92 318ic. In my garage I have an M42 from a 95 318ti. It has the JB Racing flywheel on it.  I was thinking of swapping it to my e30 when I replace the clutch over the winter. Will it fit? according to JB Racing's website they are both 215 mm but they carry different part numbers.  I suppose I could ask them, but they only make money by sellig me another one.

92 e30 318ic - Why I am here
72 2002tii - Much modified
04 X3 3.0is - Kid hauler, winter beater, tow vehicle
95 M42 - Looking for a home. Hennarot e21 maybe?
91 M42 - Am I a hoarder?

Thanks old man.
Tony, I just looked on their website and they both have the same # as does the Z3 so you should be good to go. I don't want to go the M20 route so i am going to get a JBR one too. Is $620 as good as it gets? I have to wait for TCKline to call back with a quote on monday.

The JB flywheel should fit. It is the same size as OEM. It would be perfect for a stock or close to stock M42. A modified engine pushing more HP should have a 228mm flywheel and PP to give it more clamping power. That's why people like the M20 mod. Take a look at the Metric Mechanic flywheel package also. It's the m20 mod already to go. No starter issues. About $700 complete.
