I've been avoiding putting anything less than 91 octane in the car, however the southeast is experiencing a huge fuel shortage and all I can find is 87.

I drive about 50 miles on the interstate to work and back every day, am just wondering how to avoid any problems if I'm running 87 octane.

Lots of us only buy 87. My car is going on 160k miles on 87 octane.

Kinda late but, I always use 93 on my e36. When I do use 87, there is a noticable difference in power. Loss that is. But then again I am a spirited driver..... I travel about the same distance and you would not run into any problems, but those pesky ricers........

I don't see any reason to run 87 when the car says it requires 91 or better. 10:1 compression is very high and we have no knock sensor. I highly recommend you don't be such a cheap ass and spend the extra 15 cents per gallon to treat your car as BMW engineers designed it. 15 cents per gallon isnt worth treating your car like crap. In the long run your car will run better.

eh...if you could hear it over the lifters...it may going up a steep hill in 5ht gear with it to the floor..
other wise, it will run fine..i have had to run mine on 87 a few times because of the recent shortages of gas in my area..

i wouldnt go red lining the shit out of ur bimmer with that cheap gas in it though.. but regular driving..why not?

but thats just my opinion..

Seems gas (91) has dropped in value so much that it costs me 30 to fill up with 91. Compared to 27.75 it will cost to run regular.
