Hi to you all.

My bmw started the common engine idle problem a few days ago which i beleive is caused by leaks in the vacuum hoses and/or a broken idle control valve.
So i took the hoses out today and some of them have slight cracks and rips in them so i went to order some new ones but cant seem to find a UK based dealer. Havent been down to the local bmw garage yet but do any of you guys know where to get hold of some online in the UK?

Yeah thanks, i have read tjts1's thread before and the Pelican site is the only place i can seem to find the correct hoses, but they will take about 1-2 weeks to get to the UK

As for the symptoms my car starts fine but after about 30 seconds of idling the engine idles from 900-1000 rpm. When driving the car is fine and once the engine is properly warmed up it sits at a steady 1000 rpm idle. I understand the crank position sensor may be causing this problem if the icv is not.

Sorry to hear it... welcome to the club. I have tried a multitude of things *check "bad idle" thread or "engine running in limp mode" thread*. Let me know if you end up changing the crank sensor and it does fix the problem. ICV most likely is not. Take it out and clean it/lube anyway though just to be sure.

Yeah i understand its a very common problem. Also do any of you guys know where the tiny port on the side of the throttle body is suposed to link up to as the one on my car is blanked off

Sounds like either part of the heater plate or perhaps your FPR

If its the tiniest one then yeah it connects to the fuel pressure regulator via a small vacuum hose. If its the middle sized one then it is supposed to connect to the activated carbon filter. The carbon filter is an emissions thing I think so maybe you don't have one? Check under your power steering reservoir for a vertical black cylinder with fuel lines connected to it.

i went and had a look for the carbon emmissions thing but couldnt see one anywhere.
Is this a good thing?
My car has a stainless exhaust fitted so maybe they removed it when putting it on?

Yeah it was probably deleted at some point. I'm not sure what benefits this has, so I guess "good" can be relative.

(thread hijack: )Does anybody know what happens when you remove the carbon filter or how much of the emissions system can be deleted? Does it have any affect on the engine management?

EN318isPDX: you said your cali car has no special emission stuff, do you have the charcoal canister? I'd like to remove anything unnecessary.

x2... carbon canister maybe causing my idle issues? Would still like to remove it even if not.
