BMW 4 cylinder coming back to America!

Would be fantastic to see four bangers come back to the states.  It's been since the E36 that BMW has sold one here.  I'm not a big straight-line speed guy so I've always enjoyed having 4 cylinder cars to rev the crap out of when trying to get power.

I think it's silly the new 1 series weighs almost 3400lbs.
+1 It's rediculous!  230lbs, give or take, lighter than a 3 series which is twice its size??? When the 1 series was still speculative here in the states I was thinking of getting one myself.  When they were released at practically the same weight as the 3, coupled with no hatchback form (Oh my, the coupe is hideous) I lost aboslutely all of my interest. :(

The problem here in California is now that diesel cars are allowed to be sold in this state, diesel fuel costs about 60% more than gasoline so whats the point. I would go for a 4 cylinder gasser.

ok thats different, in most eu countries diesel is about 10% cheaper than gas.  1 liter gas is around €1,10 (95) and diesel around €0,88 per liter. Those prices go up and down each day..
In belgium 55~60% of all new cars sold are diesel
318i saloon base,lowered 40mm, alpinweiss2,535i rubbers,powerflex all round,6 for 6 goodridge, M3 caster rubbers, elec fan, carbon stud braces, CatCams, 8,4Kg flywheel ,ITB\'s, 3:73LSD

The gas station I drove by this morning had $1.76/gallon gasoline and $2.89 diesel. Even premium gasoline is $1.95. The local Mercedes and VW dealers have big displays out front with the 'the TDIs are here' etc etc. Nobody is buying. I think bringing the 335d to America now was a huge mistake or just poor timing. It will fail and we won't get another diesel bmw for another 20 years. I bet a cheaper 4 cylinder diesel with a manual transmission would have been more successful.
