Which Turbo?
« on: August 31, 2008, 01:57:38 AM »
Hey guys  :)

New here but like most of you I have some plans that need pushing into action. I am going turbo and aiming for around 300hp without losing too much driveability. This project will not be finished this year since I´ve got 9 month old twin-boys that have first priority :)  going to do this slowly and in such a way that it can be used without heavy/expensive problems once it´s on the streets.

To those of you that have already done this mod:

Which turbo did you go with and when does it kick in?
Internal or external wastegate?
Intercooler piping custom or bought ready-made?

Please share some info with me on the subject since I´ve been trying to find some concrete info in the forum.....with little luck  :(

The GT2560R might not be efficient towards the top end, I would suggest a GT2860R as alot of people with an m42 have had great success with these turbos on their m42's and m44's, they are very efficient on an engine the size of the m42. A few huge things about determining turbocharger size is determining the amount of exhaust flow the engine produces, the pressure you plan on running, and the air consumption of your engine setup. Only once you have figured that out should you look at which turbo you want. You want the turbo that is going to be the most efficient with your engine setup, and if you go to the Garrett website and other turbo manufacturers you can find the graphs.

Below are two graphs for a Garrett GT2860R

I do agreed that the GT28 will be a better choice compared to the 25.
