Vladi
« on: August 18, 2008, 05:51:50 PM »
After a long while I've decided to make time and create this topic.
The story begins in the spring of 1997 when my grandfather bought this 316i E30 after seeing it parked in his area with a "For sale" note in the windscreen. He bought it for 7000$ when the car had 90.000km(+- a few kilometers). As a side note, my grandfather was also the owner of a E21 318 which was actually the car i grew up in and have done lots of trips as a child. All the trips. :D
The only extras on it were power steering, manual sunroof and central locking the rest bone stock: no foglights, steel rims, etc.
In 2000 my grandfather gave it as a Christmas present to my mom.
That's when i started nosing around and taking it apart bit by bit and putting it back together. Without destroying anything. :D
In 2002 when i got my drivers license my mom gave it to me, seeing how I had already grown fond of it.
And so begins the slow process of "making it mine".
Since then I've added:
- Hella smoked headlights
- Foglights
- MHW smoked tails
- Headlight washers
- Webasto Standheizung
- Winter package (heated mirrors, drivers door lock cyl. and windshield nozzels)
- M Technik II kit
- Rear disc brakes
- Front ventilated discs (remember it was a 316i, so no front ventilated discs like on the 318iS)
- Moved battery into the trunk
- Electric sunroof
- New electric windows
- Rear view mirror with map reading lights
- Sports seats
- OBC II
- E36 OBC IV functional (except tank)
- A/C
- Cruise control
- M Technik II steering wheel
- Rear sun rollo
- Backseat with armrest and headrests
- OEM electric antenna (I love it!)
- OEM tweeters
- Checkcontrol functional (except MotorOl)
The current suspension setup is Koni SP 2s + H&R 19.03 and 19.01
I'm going to add ABS with the ix double brake pump in a short while, I just finished installing the front ABS struts, I'll install the rest of the system when more time will be available as well as the heated seats that have been resting under my bed for a year.
The interior needs to be reupholstered (thinking indigo leather like the door cards) as well but it's not a priority right now.
Since i went turbo the main priority is to work out all the software bugs.
The pictures speak for themselves. Some of them are from 2003 so are pretty crappy. Sorry. They are too many to post so I've gathered them all here: http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc92/184S1/m42club/
Enjoy! :)

Damn bro that car has come along way! Looks amazing! One question, why in the world do you still have the stock deck hanging out in your storage area?

The storage area is occupied by the e36 obc. :)
I didn't do a 5 lug conversion, although I'm considering it. I used some adapters.
I think i should really drop the rear by half an inch. Right now i have the thickest rubber pads, 10mm. I'll take these out and put in some 5mm ones and see what's the change. :)

Well, we must always remember that even though some of us wouldn't give these cars up for anything, we shouldn't be blinded by them and be tricked into spending most of our time tinkering passing out on other important matters. I'm often in this situation. :D
