The old girl passed inspection!
« on: June 01, 2006, 07:15:02 PM »
For the first time since April, I'm driving a legal car!  I couldn't pass inspection for a while because my M-Tech II steering wheel was *mostly* on and my horn was inoperative.  Thanks, Denis, for getting me that part!

They also had to put the car on the dyno to stress test it for emissions.  I got scared when the guy came in the office and asked me if it was RWD with no traction control.

It passed emissions on the dyno EASILY.

It's also noteworthy that there were no issues with my M-Tech II steering wheel.

(unfortunately my new eBay Jeep failed inspeciton today because the ebrake is inoperative... 1 out of 2 ain't bad).

Congrats. Wish my car would pass.

Please do tell what Jeep this is???   XJ, YJ, TJ??

I MISS my old XJ dearly!  :(

But, at least I sold her off to a good home when I left Washington State.  She's a ski beater for a good friend of mine out there now.
She was affectionately named "Ski Bitch" by a few friends...

Whew, that's got to be a big relief.  It seems like most of the time the inspection is just an excuse to give more business to repair shops.  That's why I keep my car registered at my parents house in Illinois.  It's "run what you brung" out there.

When I lived in NJ, the e30s always had that "$50 pass" treatment. NJ did emissions and safety checks as well. One time I took my Maxima in to the state inspection station and they actually measured the ride height for the car (mind you a stock maxima has insane fender gap) along with checking other doo-dads

In GA, it's only emissions so it's less of a hassle to some degree as the safety crap can be a PITA at times too. Even then I know some dude who can get you to "pass" for a "fee" depending on the severity of your issue on almost any car with mods. That's one downside to the newer OBD II cars...those things trip Check Engine Lights like no other

Even the state inspection for rebranding cars is a joke. My car has a salvage title and I had to take it to some remote location pay some fees and then have the inspectors take a look at the car. Some of the cars they passed makes me think they just do this for the $$.

It's a 1998 ZJ Limited that I bought on eBay. Yes, eBay.  I never thought I'd buy a car on eBay.  It's fully loaded - V8, NVP249 (AWD), heated leather memory seats, moonroof, etc.

I lucked out.  It's in great shape (besides the ebrake and the beat shocks).  Best of all, I got it for $3600!  :D

regarding the inspection in MA - I've always found it to be pretty strict in some sense and not strict in others.  They're sticklers for bulbs, good tires, etc... but they've never given me issues for the HIDs I have in both my BMWs.

I used some sheet metal screws, nuts, and washers.  I happened to have two that fit perfectly.  I should at some point go back and put loctite on them....

Congrats on passing the inspection.  Did they fail you at first and gave you the sticker with the big red R on it?  Last year for my emissions test they couldn't test my car(exhaust leak) so they gave me back the old sticker and said come back when I get it fixed.  I had to downgrade the exhaust from supersprint to a bosal replacement. I passed the emissions testing with flying colors even with my JC chip.

The 318i passed the first time.  The Jeep has the big R on it because of the inoperative ebrake.  If it ever stops raining, I'll be able tot look at it!
