I bought one!!!
« on: June 01, 2006, 12:40:24 AM »
Tuesday I drove down and bought the car, 170,000 mi brilliantrot.  I am really excited about it and it drives great minus one quirk, when accellerating through any of the gears it losses power around 3500 rpm but it comes back around 4500, it just kinda stutters- really just kinda anoying, the PO said he thinks he got some bad gas and that it started when he filled up last, we'll see about it when i fill up next.  none the less i love the car.

that 3500 to 4500 slot appears to be the lowest torque zone.  I'm guessing any reduction in efficiency will be most noticable there.  Have you changed the plugs yet?  For the money, that one thing made the biggest diff after I bought mine.  You also wanna do the timing chain tensioner replace.  It is actually easy to do, the part is cheap, and it is reallly important to keeping that m42 engine happy.

I just got my Brilliantrot in April. I would replace the wires in addition to the plugs, and maybe run some fuel additive through it. Chances are it hasn't gotten the premium fuel it requires.

Can't wait to see pics.

brilliantrot FTW!  Congrats.  I agree with the plugs and wires replacement as a first attack if the gas isn't the issue.  Don't use platinum plugs.

Why not? I got platinum +4's on mine. The M42 should be modern enough to use'em.

My 318is came w/ the platinum +4's but I put NGK's back in.  The Bosch's were fine but I have love for NGK.
