Wheel Question . . .
« on: May 31, 2006, 10:28:20 PM »
Even though I don't really have the money to buy anything at the moment, I can't keep myself from shopping for wheels (there just so tasty!). So I am wondering, besides the obvious 4x100 bolt pattern, what specs should I look for in a 15x7" wheel? How can I figure out if I will need a spacer? What's the deal with "hubcentric" and the measurements thereof?

Also, what, if any, cars use the same size wheel as the E30? I've heard older GTIs and Miatas do. In fact, I found a great sourse for Miata wheels

http://www.good-win-racing.com/mazda/miata/title.html?toparea=Miata%201990%2d2005&catname=Alloy%20Wheels&titlename=Wheels

Most of these have a 30mm offset with a milled 54mm hubcentric. Will this fit the E30?

Thanks!

Try the Kosei K1.  Popular wheel with the BMW clubbers.  Light, cheap and looks good on the car.  I've got them in a 15x7" size and they fit just right.  I got mine from Jack at Elephant Motorsport.  He might still have some.

I'm also a REALLY big fan of the 15" euro-basketweave, but they seem hard to find.  I may have to send a friend on a mission to find me a set when he's in Germany.  Several people here and on e30tech have them though.  If you can find a set for a decent price, this is probably the best option for a street wheel IMHO.

Gotta pic of you car/wheels? I'd love to see it.

Yeah, I've been looking for some euroweaves, they pop up on occasion, but they tend to be more $$$ than a new set of something else. They are BBS though

After doing some looking around, it looks like the centerbore spec for E30 hubcentric wheels is 57.1mm, so specific miata wheels won't fit unless they are bored out or use spacers. Looks like pretty typical et is 25mm for a 15x7.

Does that sound right?

E30 center bore is 57.1 mm. Discount tire has plastic hubcentric rings for $20 a set. They reduce down to 57.1 mm. I have 17 X 7's with 25 mm offset and they fit fine. Recommended offset is 18-25 mm. Over 25 and you usually need spacers. They may clear the strut but will be tucked in to far.

Well, I was gonna wait till my entire project from hell was done before I put any pictures out there, but here's a sneak peak...  just for you.

New Rubber:

Mounted:

And, on the car:

Sorry, I don't have better pictures, but the front suspension is still in pieces and I've had other issues which are delaying the completion of the project.
Should give you a glimpse of what they look like mounted though.

Better pics are at the bottom of the second page of TIATO's profile.  It's also a red car like yours, so should be better.

Hope this helps.
