Switchable chips?

I was wondering if anybody has thought about/successfully built a pod that would hold two chips, and you could switch between the two before start-up.

So you could have a chip meant for 91 octane, and have a chip for 93+ octane fuel.

That way when you couldn't find 93+ octane fuel when you needed it, you could refuel your car with 91, and use the other chip.


Granted it would cost a bunch to own two chips, and I am geussing the harness to switch between the two chips would only add to the cost.

I have seen that kind of setup in my buddy's car. He pushed a button, and it would enhance the engine output. But if he hit the button while he was driving he would fry the box, so he'd have to choose before starting up the car.

I saw a write-up somewhere where someone did just that, but piggybacked them in the ECU - seemed pretty straightforward if you can solder on those little bitty connectors.

I may just end up doing this mod.

I am a little concerned about the fuel settings the computer saves, but I geuss I wouldn't be flip flopping between two types of fuel all the time anyways...
