AHH!!I'm SO TORN!!
« on: May 28, 2006, 10:36:05 PM »
So I got this trade offer for a silvertop 20v(8k redline, 165hp, ITB's) powered ae86. But, the guy's in Ohio and I'm in SF! Sorry to sound like a traitor, but a silvertop powered ae86 is a SWEET car! Ahhh!!!

Info:

Quote
I have an "86 GTS with a 20V silver top swap in it that i'd be interested in trading. I have a ton of money in it and i bought a mega squirt for it and now i can't get it to run and i'm out of money. It needs a little bit of body work, but it is in pretty good shape. Kyb 8-way adjustables in the rear with 4-ways in the front. Eibach pro-kit. Trd 36 piece bushing kit. Front and rear upper strut braces. Do-luck bar. TRD 4 point harness, kaaz 2-way LSD, and prolly more i'm forgeting about.

Pic of the car:

Here's one in Japan with RS Watanabe's:

I'm sure some of you guys know about these cars and appreciate them, hence my frustrating post/situation.What to do???!!![/i]

Two things...   A) You know what your dealing with on your own car, and you have no idea what this car needs... and B) early Japanese cars rust like crazy in the midwest and northeast.  One reason why no one drove Japanses cars in the midwest is they would "rust out"...

If you wanted a second car for drifting or something like that, I'd say it would be a sweet choice, but I'd much rather drive a 318is as a daily driver.  But, then again, I am a little biased.  ;)

its a nice car and all, but really i believe the only advantage it has is that motor... and the m42 isnt that far behind it... and the e30 chasis (i think) is so much more elegant/better and the e30 is just a way more handsome looking car. i wouldnt buy it because it already has modifications that i dont know anything about because im from the bmw world...the toyota world is massively different and to jump into it like that i think would be more difficult than making an e30 faster.

If you were in my shoes, with 2 m42s, I'd encourage you to pick it up. I love those old school Toyotas. I wanted to get one a few years back but now the fact it's all drift guys token car kinda turns me off from getting one.
I wouldn't pass a good deal up on one of them though.

Final Decision lies in your hands.

I have an old toyota corolla, its a limitted edition convertible from '82 with 26,000 mi.  I prefer my e30's personally. Good Luck though.

Its a cool car; I think I drove it playing Forza on XBOX. I agree, though, that I can't see what it has over the E30. Its definitely an ugly duckling by comparison, and I don't think there would be as much potential for picking up chicks lol.

Then again, it might be the ultimate sleeper, and if its what your set on then no other car will do. I would just give it a lot of thought if it means unloading your E30 because it is a truly sweet car.

Thought I'd add, I'm not sure where the car is located, but I live in Athens, Ohio which is the southeast portion of the state near WV. If its convenient, you're welcome to crash here, and depending on where the car is located, I might be able to check it out for you.

^^^Thanks a mil for the offer bro, but it looks like it's not going to happen. The costs--time, money, etc--are too great. I have owned an ae86 before and they are A LOT of fun. Extremely well balanced little cars. Honestly, if the guy was closer, I would have done it. BTW, I have never used cars to get "chicks." Always used my good looks and brains:p . Another thing, call me strange, but I really like the way ae86's look.

I really like the AE86 but I think it would be tough to compare it to a 318is for a daily driver/fun car

Yeah, I was kidding about picking up chicks. I'm married so I wouldn't know anyways and was never much good at it before, I just relied on luck.

I did some research on the ae86 as you spiked my curiousity, and it does look like a really cool car, I might have to pull out my XBOX and give it a go. I'm sure you'll be able to find a car closer in the future. Seems like all the good cars are in Cali anyways.

Ha! Yeah, I know you were being facetious regarding the "chick" thing. :)  AS you have seen this is a cool little car. Especially with the 20 valve silvertop 4age. <---Very sweet engine. 20v with ITB's (they come stock) sound VERY sexy!!

Is it a 5 cylinder with 4 valves per cyl, or a 4 cyl with 5 valves per cyl??   I'm confused.  If it's a turbo 5 banger... hell yeah!!!

Ultimate 5 banger below:
