Sea Foam Engine Cleaner?? Anyone Have experience with it?
« on: July 21, 2008, 07:52:51 PM »
I just learned about this new internal engine cleaner called "Sea Foam"..apparently it is suppose to make the engine perform like new after..de-carbons, cleans injectors, removes build ups, valves, lifters, crank case..a whole lot...Is this for real? Has anyone ever used it??

I used it on my M10 but only in the intake tract. I also poured a little down into the cylinders. Didn't put any in my fuel or oil system in fear of breaking up seals.  I didn't see any noticeable gains, but it ran smoother.  I've heard good and bad about it but it seemed to work fine for me.

M42 Swap a success!...so far:rolleyes:

I have tried Sea Foam. My lifters were tapping and I poured half into the tank and the other half into the oil. My lifters quit tapping in seconds. Its OK. Wouldn't call it the best.

Its not new. Its been around since at least the 1950's.

I use it in my lawn mower and snowblower. It cleans up the gummy deposits after they have been sitting for awhile.

A few years ago I used it in an old jeep that was idling rough. Did the hot soak which was basically pour it down the carb until it flooded it out and died. Let it soak for a half hour and started it back up. Blew smoke like crazy for a few minutes, but cured the idle problem.  I do this to my snow blower every fall just to clean out any varnish from sitting idle over the summer.

Haven't used it in my BMWs, but its supposed to be an excellent cleaner of the fuel system and intake system depending on where you introduce it.

I don't know about making it like new. It can't undo the wear, but if your motor is a little dirty inside it should help. Maybe it'll clean up the oily mess inside the intake we have seen photos of.

I have never heard of anyone saying it does any harm.

I haven't tried it on the M42 yet but I have used it on 2 volvos. Sucked it up through thin vac line. Both engines smoothed out a bit after use. Wouldn't call it a miracle drug but it does work as advertised. Be sure to rev the engine and put the stuff in slowly through a thin vac line in order to prevent hydrolock. Then immediately turn off engine for 5 minutes then drive the crap out of the car. You should do this in a remote area at night. You'll kill every mosquito within 10 miles.
