Fuel line routing
« on: July 01, 2008, 10:43:50 AM »
We have a recently acquired 1991 318i.  It has a fuel hose that is dangling near the fuel filter.  I think it might go to the carbon canister, but I'm unsure.  These seem to be unique from other E30s, it is different than my 92 E30 325i cabrio.

It also runs like crap when first started when cold, but is fine once it is warm, and I thought maybe this hose that isn't connected might have something to do with it.

The fuel filter is just in front of the rear driver's side wheelwell.  The carbon cannister is under the hood, under and a little in front of the power steering fluid reservoir.  There are 2 cannisters in the rear on your car?

I haven't yet named the volvo :)

The extra hose I have is near the fuel filter.  I'm just wondering where it was supposed to go.  One end is still connected to a hard line on the chassis.  I haven't followed that to see where it goes.

Here are a couple of pictures of the hose in question.  Car was still on the ground so I couldn't get a good angle.

What should be mounted here?

Here is the hose

And where it goes...

Follow the other end of it - looks like it may be the evap line, which means that it is disconnected at the top of the tank...  you could also remove the access panel on the driver's side under the rear seat and see if anything is disconnected there.
