I got my vin checked by a member of Bf.c and it came back as this.

my question is, why does it say 103 for the power? according to wikipedia, the m42 has a power output of 103KW but i thought that was for the e36 318?

but yet when i had my vin checked for my old ES, it came back in HP not KW.

it came back as saying power 127. instead of power 95.

shrug, if you have a M42 like the rest of us, you have 136hp, 127 torques

i always said if i'd move up from an e30, it'd be an z3mcoupe. although the z4's are growing on me as well.

103 kw = 138 hp

I thought that E36 M42's had slightly more power than the E30 M42's, and I am pretty sure they do considering they have improved intake manifolds, narrower valve stems(less airflow resistance and less weight), and lighter, not as strong springs(less hp lost to friction).

But I also got my VIN decoded and it came out at 103 kw or 138 hp and it's an E30 with a 5/1990 build date. I also thought it should have 100 kw or 134hp.

I'm curious what is the reason for the inconsistencies. But either way, it's only 4hp or 3% difference in power.
