Struts out?
« on: June 06, 2008, 11:17:49 AM »
Well I got some new 15 inch wheels on today, and the passenger side looks reasonably centred in the wheel arch, the driver side is way too close to the front guard, and rubs slightly at turn on the inside of the wheel arch near the brake vent. There is 50mm between tyre and rear of wheel arch on passenger side, but about 90mm on driver side. The driver side tyre also just clears the strut, but it could possibly rub under some load. It has progressive springs in the front and Bilstein sports. The only other thing replaced with these was the upper mounts. No CABs or sway bushings as they all looked really good and still do. The strut towers do not appear to be cracked, but I could be mistaken. Any other ideas, could the strut assembly be put back together wrong? Any help would be great.;)

Hi.

I would first head on down to a local wheel alignment shop as you will need one given fact that you have fitted alternative wheel/ tyre package; alignment will be out.

As per you suggested problem, suggestions are though will be clarified at point of wheel alignment;

-your car has been involved in a collision at some point

or

-mismatched, incorrectly replaced strut or lower control arm from a differing model

- severely bent strut

take some quality pictures of both sides with the wheels removed, and we'll see if we can help.
