Failed Inspection
« on: May 23, 2008, 07:33:20 AM »
I just failed NJ inspections with a NOx reading of 1777 (1134 max) and a HC reading of 285 (146 max).  The cat was replaced recently.  any ideas where to start?  Could it be the O2 sensor?  thx

You could try cleaning out the inkate runners. Mine were absolutely disgusting, so I cleaned them out with some rags and a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, and any left over I dumped into the tank.

And while your in that area you could do the vacuum/coolant line cleanup. Because your vacuum lines are probably as bad mine were...

The cleaning of the intake runner may not do anything, but if your car has vacuum leaks, fixing that will help you out.

The o2 sensor is a good idea aswell.

i think someone should create a sticky about passing smog....especially about reducing nox, mine is around 2000... :( i seafoamed my car, in the oil, vacuum line, and tank, and when i went for a retest they said my NOX was worst. i just replaced my o2 sensor hopefully i'lll pass, but any suggestions? should i seafoam again, is that safe to do?
