Hah, no worries Tim S. As much as we like to say our cars are the same little difference like this spark my interest a lot of times. What do you guys have in place of the rear fuel filter on the d.side infront of the rear subframe?

IIRC the charcoal canister thing is just for emissions over here. I am not 100% though.

Dan - just the car driving already, rustoleum or no rustoleum. You missd the CCA auto-x again this past Sunday :mad:

I know, I know... But, I hate the thought of not taking care of this stuff while everythings out of the way. It's been a slow process as I'm essentially working 2 full time jobs now. 1 is my real job, the 2nd is getting this car pieced back together.

Car will be all back in one piece next week as I'm driving down for the event at Barber.

I'm doing the Audi Driving School at Road Atlanta this weekend. Fortunately, we're using thier cars!

I'm going to Robeling Road in June, and I probably need to sign up for the Peachstate BMWCCA school at Road A for June, if it isn't full already. Are you going?

I'll be @ the Road ATL mini track session on 6/4 and for the BMWCCA HPDE 7/8 & 7/9. Roebling is a bit far for me as I don't have a trailer assuming something happens :eek:

I'm not sure you know. Only the petrol tank sits in front of the rear subframe on the driver's side - when I have some more time I'll try to see exactly what you mean.

Got 200 miles on the engine so far, went for a long drive to devon yesterday, everything is going pretty well. She ran a little hot for the first half hour or so, I think there was greater friction as everything bedded in, but since then everything has been great. the fuelling doesn't seem perfect, but is plenty good enough to run with. Cranking is a little difficult, but when I go to MS I can just increase the pulsewidths on cranking a little. I've changed the oil once after 1/2 hr running, and the oil seemed fine, nothing untoward going on. I'm not sure about the performance as I've only used light throttle and low revs as i run her in, a friend wants me to get the car on the rollers on the 23rd, I'm not sure if I'll have enough miles in by then. I don't think I'll be on MS then either. we'll see.

why's that? I'm running SD at the moment, and so I want to get a strong map before putting the throttles on, at which point I may go blended alpha-n/SD or hybrid alpha-n. but then I'll have cams on too. i need to run the engine in gently, putting the tbs on now would not be wise.

The CR is a bit under 11:1 for the moment, when I work over the head I will get it skimmed to bring it to 11:1.

the bottom end will be strong to significantly over 7k rpm, but the rest of the engine won't be up to much more than 7k rpm. after i've ran her in and finished mapping, until the head work/cams/itbs, i will be revving to 7k, after that maybe a little higher.

What if you put more aggresive Cams and valve springs? A high revving 2.1L would be awesome

yeah when i get around to doing the cams, big valve head and putting the ITBs on I will rev it further, but only once the engine has settled right in and done a good few thousand miles - i plan a partial rebuild at some point to check everything over and do the top end of the engine. i like to take my time and do everything properly, and this new engine is still running in, so revving high isn't high on my priorities at the moment, but i've built it with components that are capable of revving highly.

Been playing with my intake today, I got it back off the bodyshop as the guy's busy and hasn't got around to trying to fix the bubbling problem and spray it again. so i told him i'd have a crack at sorting the bubbling out etc, then he can spray it for me. i think i'm getting there now, p40'd heavily over the fibreglass after digging out all the bits that had bubbled, have had it in front of my fire for ages after this paintjob and seems ok at the mo, we'll see. if it doesn't bubble i'll get it sprayed properly again. Got some 23.8lb injectors to go on too, its all slowly coming together. the engine's running in nicely, feels a bit lean on the motronic, but a friend is trying to borrow a lambda meter thing so we can have a tinker with the MS mapping.
