eBay spring/shock kits, anyone tried? Opinions?
« on: May 19, 2008, 08:03:56 PM »
Tokico HP: eBay link #1
KYB/Vogtland: eBay link #2

I'm really not into spending $1000 in total to get Bilstein, so I was looking at eBay alternatives. Any opinions other than "I don't trust this because it's on eBay"? Maybe even someone who actually got a kit? Or should I test the territory? :o

read bad things about tokico HP kit being too soft (no info on the spring manufacturer).

read good things about the Vogtland springs and the KYB shocks should do ok in a bind. I'll probably get this kit and upgrade the shocks later.

I've heard far too many complaints about Tokico HPs over the years to ever invest in them. They have a reputation for being junk in as little as 10k miles.

Unfortunately KYB doesn't offer the AGX shock for our cars (as far as I know), which is too bad because it is a great, durable, adjustable budget shock. The KYB gas-adjust/GR2 is more of a get-what-you-pay-for kind of shock.

Not to say that used shocks are necessarily a good option, but if you buy from somebody reputable it may not be a bad alternative. Dave Vaarco stocks used Bilsteins and might be able to help you out (I'm not sure he keeps this site current, so you may want to contact him to check inventory):

I had agx on my miata and they were great. Not konis but they did what they needed to do and with careful planning and tuning they helped me in many autocrosses.
