Brown Santa dropped off a large heavy package this morning and I had no clue what it was. Then opened it and remembered that I had made a online order for $129.84 late one night for exhaust parts!

All 2.25" piping, and a pretty nice looking muffler design, so hopefully nice and free-flowing. Though I'm betting this setup is gonna be too loud, haha.

I had that exact same cat. Sorry to say it didn't last long before the insides started to come loose and rattle. Hope you have better luck with yours.

We are running straight pipe and Magnaflow muffler. Its a track car and it's very loud. I'll try to upload a video for reference.

Looks like you'll get a nice exhaust. We might add a cat to it later for inspection purposes. Wonder how that'll change the sound.

well right now I havea baffled resonator in place the the factory cat, and I havea dynamax muffler. and its a tad quite for my liking. So I'm curious to see how this set up will sound

Yeah, I sure hope so too. My friend recently got that cat and it's lasted him a year so far and his car had really low emissions and easily passed his last smog test(and our area has the strictest emissions testing in the U.S. to my knowledge).

I also noticed that the element appeared to be ceramic, and all ceramics to my knowledge are very brittle. I'm sure if it got dropped during shipping or received a good smack while attached to the car it would crack the element, and then it would slowly fall apart.

On that matter, did you have any trouble mounting the cat and having plenty of ground clearance?

I'm assuming a Magnaflow Race Series muffler? I hope so at least Cause my setup is just gonna be headers, cat, muffler. I hear a catalytic converter does a pretty good job of reducing sound since it acts kinda like a mini-muffler, but not as much as good glasspacks or a real muffler.

Yeah, I'm kinda afraid of that. But chances are I'd use a glasspack instead cause they are really good at getting rid of rasp and that tin can effect, not to mention very free-flowing. A friend has an E36 M3 PTG car with just glasspacks and that car sounds awesome, and it's pretty quiet for a race car.

resonator/glasspack are nearly the same. Usually glasspacks will have the glass blow out after a while.
Putting two in a row is a good way to help sound too. I know of other cars running two resonators inline, then ending with a small bullet exhaust and they sound fine. It's similar to running one resonator and one large body muffler

To my knowledge, resonators are all-metal in construction and use sound reflection to "filter" unwanted sounds, while glasspacks use ceramic, metal, and/or glass fibers to absorb sound. Unless I am wrong, they seem quite different.

Also, the glass will not "blow" out of a glass pack after a while, that is, unless it is something home-made by someone who doesn't know what they are doing or the glasspack is severely damaged. A glasspack is the same as a straight through muffler. ex.Magnaflow's Race Series mufflers are the same as a glasspack but with an exhaust tip.

"blow out" is certainly a misnomer... aka: burn, deteriorate over time etc. Yes, this happens with cheap ones like cherry bomb etc. That is if it doesn't rust through first. Ever looked inside a supertrapp? It's basically an open end glass pack and the fiberglass is replaceable as it deteriorates over time. You may also find bits of fiberglass clinging to exposed joint areas in used muffler piping.

But yea, different things and it is best to stick to good name brands unless you are ok with replacing it often and just want a light track setup.

Hard to say, but it will probably be a while.

I am going to buy the car from my neighbor who is currently repairing it. I have the pink slip to it already, but the final things need to be worked out with it. The process has been very slow, mainly due to the fact that my neighbor manages a Formula V6 team in Asia so he is doing a lot trips back and forth the china for a month at a time. Also I'm getting the car for about $1400 including all the repairs including labor, new crankshaft bearings, oil pan, etc... so it's not like he's making any money working on my car.
