Author Topic: Peerless rocks the M42 (Read 5066 times)

Hello M42 Club,

My name is Robert and I hail from the land of sunshine and wildfires. That would be SoCal for those that didn't get it.

Anyways I have gotten myself elbow deep into rebuilding a few M42's. I figured it would be appropriate for me to register here as a member so that I may share my progress and the things I am learning about these wonderfully modern marvels of German engineering.

Also as some of you may know I have a small BMW E30 repair shop I run from home. I do everything from swapping dash boards to rebuilding engines. I currently have several projects in progress. M30, M20 2.8eta, M20 2.9 Metric Mechanic build, and 2 M42's.

Anyways I wanted to make my first post here to introduce myself, not my business. I hope to be a very helpful member to your community. Please feel free to contact me if you need help. I just had someone call me from MA to help his stranded wife. So my name has traveled far and wide. But please try to find answers to basic questions through proper searches and research first.

I am also a member of E30Tech since 2005 and Unofficial BMW since 2004. I am in good standing and reputation with a excellent feedback rating.

PS:The screen name of 'peerless' is not to say I am above anyone else, its to simply mean I am different and unique from everyone else. Some people call me a beer fueled fun loving deviant, well maybe only on the weekends.

Here is a picture of me and another M42 member Colin. I am on the left in the black shirt, ol' Colin is on the right. This was after a full day of prepping his M42 block.

Mmm Yellow! That block looks great, It's great to have you onboard too. Post up some pics of your other projects.

Welcome - but how did you get it so clean?! Ive wanted to acid dip everything for ages, but its so ��. And the colour is something different

Well first we let her take a 180*F bath in a nice toxic and caustic solution for about 24hrs. Then afterwards she received a good honing to sooth her crosshatch. When I got her home I aggressively tapped all her holes, the cutting oil was oozing from her holes at this point and we where both getting excited. After cleaning up I decided it was time to hand caress her down with some 600grit and followed up with 1000grit to really put a shine to her skin. She looked so good just sitting there naked, but I couldn't let her run around naked like a cheap trick so Colin picked out a beautiful Canary Yellow dress for her. How amazing she looked, we immediately booked a photo shoot for her so she could show off her beauty to the rest of the world.

Now with all this pampering you would think she would be a moaner, but no this little gal is going to be a screamer and she knows it. Just look at the deviant little smile she has below.

Was it a DIY jobbie, or did you send it off? I think i could get it done in my bath...no one here uses it much, preferring the shower. Then again, im sure the landlord wouldnt like a bath stipped of its enamel.

by the way.. what color did you used to paint the block? special heat resistant color?

Yes Corona in hand. Required on weekends after 4pm

The paint is made by duplicolor, [SIZE=-1] DE 1642 Daytona Yellow.

I haven't heard good things about dupli-color...several friends recommended VHT but seems like you do this regularly!

peerless, nice block!
makes me want to do the same but for now my block is kind of oxide orange rust color
what car is going to receive that engine? yellow sure looks nice with brilliantrot and DS. you could also get some yellow vaccum and coolant hoses and it'd make a very clean engine bay!
