On E36 you need to change:

- driveshaft (the one between differential and gearbox) from 6 cylinder model
- half shafts (the ones between differential and wheel hubs) from 6 cylinder model

Not sure about E30.

E30's are a direct swap...you may have to adjust driveshaft. Search threads as this has been covered in the last couple of weeks.

the driveshaft is ajustable you just need to lossen the slip collar it is located about about the cat. It is splined so it won't need to be rebalanced. you also need the axle cups from the six cylinder car they should come with the diff. other than that everything else lines up fine. Ajust the driveshaft all the way forward. i used a channel lock to loosen the nut on the driveshaft. Let me know if you need anymore help.

There is no need to change axles they are the same. You just need to use the drive flange outputs that where original on the medium case because the ones from your small case you have now will stick out to fare and the axles will appear to be to long.

Nope its all the same. You will have to adjust the length of the drive shaft a bit. Its adjustable.
Sold but not forgotten

This is whats wrong with your car.
