Author Topic: Bad waterleak from front of engine, and PAS belt (Read 3179 times)

I have a really bad water leak coming from the front of the engine, I guess this is the water pump? Its lower down the engine, past the thermostat.

Also, how do I go about adjusting the PAS pump belt? Mines loose as hell, as in almost falling off. No idea where it adjusts.

You must adjust the alternator bracket to tighten the Water Pump belt.
You must adjust the Power Steering Bracket to tighten the PS belt and you must adjust the A/C tension wheel to tighten the A/C belt.

Yes, underneath the thermostat housing is the Water Pump. The fan is attached to it (remember the fan is reverse threaded.)

i remember the thermostat being under the thermostat housing... and the water pump holding on behind the pulley.. no? could your leak be from the famous profile gasket? ?

Ha ha, I wrote that funny.
UNDERNEATH the thermostat housing is the thermostat. LOWER THAN the thermostat housing is the waterpump holding the fan.

The thermostat is in the thermostat housing. The water pump has a pulley attached to it for the belt and then the fan clutch & blade assembly in front of the pulley.

The water pump would most likely leak down onto the crankshaft pulley and/or the power steering belt.

The profile gasket is hidden behind the timing covers and the cylinder head will have to come off.

Could you maybe post a picture of the leak.

I can get a picture tomorrow, but like your saying the leak is going down onto the powersteering pump and onto the belt, then onto the little tray underneath.

Bad profile gasket would leak coolant directly into the oil where the timing chain is.
Water pump leak, or even thermostat gasket leak, would run down the outside (if all gaskets on timing covers are good) of the front of the engine.

It's probably the WP as it has a "weep hole" right? Most cars do, not positive on the M42. Basically if the WP starts to fail coolant will "weep" out of the WP
