Hi all i getting some cams for the is,but was wandering what best to go for. I'll be using the car as a daily driver with the intention of spending lots of time on the track.Any suggestions/advice and shared experiences would be of great help! Thanks Douge.

Mild (Shrick 256 degree) if you do not change anything else on engine.

My engine is currently running Shrick 256 cams and I think its a good compromise between daily driving and track use. Power on low revs is definitely lower compared stock cams but its not that terrible.

Where do they like asses? :)

Wild = which one?

I'd be interested to know what to use for a dedicated track car.

R3v likes ass's. Bimmerforums likes ass's.

in saying wild i was referring to cams.
  9.86 mm lift, and 264 duration is what i have, they made a noticeable difference for sure, but I'm going to bigger this time around.

Cams for the M42 are expensive. Especially Schricks. At least compared to other engines. Try Delta Cams (Google them) for a reground set. 265 duration is mild, 270 is fair and over 275 is getting up there. I wouldn't do cams alone - only if I was building the engine from the ground up. A chip is the best bang for the buck. About 4 HP.

Hi all,i have 3 things i'd like to say,firstly i'd like to thank you all for your replys(sincerly).Second,my second post on this thread said what i felt,this is the first forum i've been on that has made me feel like i don't excist(sorry for the poor spelling)maybe it's because i don't drive a e30 318is,maybe it's because i'm new,or maybe because i only had 2 post count,i don't know.You all seem pretty well established within yourselves and don't seem very welcoming.Now i'm not expecting you all to drop everything and reply to my post,but a little acknowledgement would be nice,one reply would be nice.But instead,i have to make a sarcastic comment to get a reaction from you.I apologise for the comment i made,but felt it was the only way to get something out of your "community".Thirdly,i am not an ass,please don't treat me like an internet troll,i have joined this site because i am installing a M42 engine into my classic bmw.Thanks again,1802is.

M42club is a good forum, nice friendly people here. But sometimes it can be a little slow, there arent as many members on here as some other e30 forums. If you dont get a reply in what you feel is an appropriate amount of time, just bump the thread. Easier and nicer than being sarcastic.
It\'s not paranoia if they really are out to get you.

+1 I like having less people here because it means we have a higher concentration of good posts.  We can have more good information here in a one page thread as you have in a 10 page thread on some "other" forums

well, hand tight and i will post the finished product with a performance report. or maybe when i am in the area (which is frequently) you can drive the car and compare for yourself.
